There are a number of digital platforms used at Middlebury that allow for cloud storage of files.

Google Drive and OneDrive are the most robust and have the largest file storage capacity for individual Middlebury users. If you’re interested in the difference between the two, check out this overview: Google Drive versus OneDrive.

Canvas has the smallest amount of cloud file storage capacity, and is thus not recommended as a place to store large files for courses.

Zoom cloud files are automatically deleted after 90 days. It is therefore not recommended as a long-term file storage space for your recorded Zoom sessions. We recommend downloading Zoom files and uploading them to Panopto, if you’re looking for a longer-term storage solution, or if you’re looking to share your Zoom recordings in Canvas.

Panopto is the recommended place to store your video files — you can upload videos there even if you don’t record them using the Panopto video recorder. Panopto also integrates nicely with Canvas, and allows for easy embedding of videos into your Canvas course pages and assignments.

Handbrake is a free software for compressing and converting video files, if you are looking for a tool to make large video files smaller without greatly compromising quality.
